Crossing a Bridge, 24x18 oil on canvas
“Growing up and living on Vancouver Island, I have been motivated to paint the ocean and the forest environment that border much of our west coast, as well as the town and village lifestyle. I hope that the viewer of my paintings can sense and enjoy the beauty and majesty of our largely unspoiled places and appreciate the colours and light of our natural environment.”

Sea Grasses, 22x13 watercolour on paper.
I developed my love of art when still at school and had great artists as teachers such as Carole Sabiston and Bill West. After some studies and time working as a graphic artist, I returned home, to Vancouver Island where I started to paint in watercolours and later oils. The different mediums have allowed me to capture the ever changing and contrasting aspects of light, colour and mood that are unique to this island.

Brass and Pewter, 12x9 oil on canvas
At the moment I am working in oils and watercolour, both in my studio and from life. The “en plein air” technique allows me to swiftly capture the moment in the weather, the light and the mood before sudden changes occur. In contrast to this, I work in my studio. One of my studio series is inspired by the still life practice of the masters and I also paint a variety of town-life paintings.
Light, colour and mood are my passion and I thrive on attempting to capture these elements in paint.
