Born in Victoria,
Barbara Callow developed a love of art throughout school, having great
artists as teachers such as, Carole Sabiston and Bill West. She went
on to train in Fine Arts at Langara College in Vancouver, completing
a two year diploma program.
After working
in the Graphic Arts Industry for a number of years, she returned
to Vancouver Island devoting her time to painting in watercolour,
a demanding and difficult medium. Concentrating mainly on flowers
and west coast landscape, her paintings depict a strong sense of
mood and light.
Barbara is an
Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and exhibits
on a regular basis. Her paintings are in collections across North
America, England and France.
Artist's
Statement
Growing up and
living on Vancouver Island I have been motivated to paint the ever
present ocean and the forests that still border much of our West
Coast, as well as the abundant flowers that grow everywhere here,
almost year round.
I hope that
the viewer of my paintings can sense and enjoy the beauty and the
majesty of our largely unspoiled places and appreciate the light
and moods of our coastal environment.
